Death of a Salesman Book Jacket

fall 2017 | AIGA St. Louis Design Show FInalist (Student category)

The challenge of this project was to design a book jacket by building custom typography and creating a three-dimensional set. Only minimal Photoshop alterations were allowed at the end.

Through my set I wanted to depict the decay of the American Dream and the inability of the average man to achieve it – a theme of the play that stuck with me in high school, and is also politically relevant today.

I experimented with different visual representations for the loss of the American Dream. I was also interested in the theme of the man in the grey flannel suit, or the average middle class man who will not leave an impact on the world. This lead me to use low contrast type that gets lost in my scene, just as the main character is lost in the world.
